This DIY mini airship has the steampunk touch that Ugears is known for, with a tugboat-style cabin and rear porch, rubber band motor with on/off switch, motor-driven propellers, spinning ship wheel, movable stabilizers and wheels that allow the model to rotate back and forth up to 2m on a flat surface, giving the impression of mechanical movement.
German inventor Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin worked on his concept for an inflatable airship for over twenty years before patenting his invention in 1895. Perhaps one of his first sketches resembled the Steampunk airship? Commercial Zeppelins consist of a large cylindrical fabric body stretched over a rigid metal frame containing the large gas balloons which provide buoyancy. Our airship is smaller, more personal and more welcoming - you can imagine piloting your craft with a cup of tea on the table where you have laid out your navigation charts.
The creative process should not stop once the model is assembled. Continue to let your imagination run wild by painting, coloring or staining your Steampunk Airship in the color palette of your choice (paints not included). Ugears models also look stunning in their natural state. Then, let your imagination run wild by dreaming of the fields, lakes, mountains or oceans you will cross aboard your personal airship.
